Aberdeen Medicine FAQs

What UCAT score do I need for Aberdeen Medicine 2027 entry?

There's no published cut-off - Aberdeen ranks candidates on Academic (30%) + UCAT (20%). Aim for 2,650+ if RUK or International (2025 average invited ~2,700), and 2,550+ if Scottish (2025 average invited ~2,560). SJT Band 4 is a hard reject.

How is the Aberdeen Medicine application scored?

It's one of the most transparent scoring models in the UK: Academic score (predicted/achieved A-levels) 30%, UCAT 20%, and MMI Interview 50%. GCSEs are NOT scored at shortlisting from 2025 entry onward - only your academic predictions/achieved grades count.

Does Aberdeen use GCSEs for shortlisting?

No, not for scoring. From 2025 entry onward, GCSEs are not used numerically in the academic score - only predicted/achieved A-levels count. GCSEs still need to meet the minimum (grade 6/B in English and Maths, a mix of 6-9s expected) but they don't decide who's shortlisted.

What is the Aberdeen Medicine interview like?

Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) - six stations of about seven minutes each, roughly one hour total, held in person at the Suttie Centre on the Foresterhill clinical campus. Stations cover motivation, core qualities, critical thinking, teamwork, professionalism and one pilot station. No academic knowledge is tested.

Is the personal statement used at Aberdeen?

Yes - it's not given a numerical score but it's read before interview and used as a discussion prompt during the MMI. A weak PS gives interviewers material to probe; a strong one buys you room on tougher stations.

How many places does Aberdeen Medicine have?

Around 254 places for Scottish applicants, 25 for RUK (rest of UK) and 19 for International in a typical recent cycle. The interview-to-offer conversion is high - roughly 79% of interviewees receive an offer for Home applicants in the 2026 cycle.

Does Aberdeen offer Graduate Entry Medicine?

No - Aberdeen doesn't run a 4-year A101 graduate programme. Graduates apply through the standard 5-year MBChB. Applicants with a 2:1 Honours degree only need a B in Chemistry at A-level or Scottish Higher; without an Honours degree the standard AAA at A-level applies.

What is Gateway2Medicine at Aberdeen?

A one-year widening-access programme for Scottish residents from underrepresented backgrounds (SIMD20 / Quintile 1 postcodes and similar criteria). Perform well on the course, UCAT and MMI and you're guaranteed a place on Year 1 of the MBChB. Scottish residents only.

How much does Aberdeen Medicine cost for 2027 entry?

Scottish-domiciled students pay ~£1,820/yr via SAAS, RUK students pay ~£9,790/yr (2026/27), and International students pay ~£50,100/yr (2026/27). 2027 rates are expected to rise ~3% for Overseas.

Does Aberdeen accept resit A-levels?

Generally no. Aberdeen expects AAA at first sitting; resits are considered only with documented mitigating circumstances.
