UCL Medicine FAQs

What UCAT score do I need for UCL Medicine 2027 entry?

UCL doesn't publish a hard cut-off - it ranks all academically eligible applicants by UCAT decile and works down. In the 2024 and 2025 cycles the effective cut-off was around 2,830-2,850 (top 10-15%). Aim for 2,850+ to be safe, and treat anything below 2,750 as a long shot.

Does UCL look at GCSEs?

Yes - strongly. There is no formal cut-off but the typical successful applicant has a profile heavy in 8s and 9s, with at least a 5/B in English Language and Maths. GCSE breadth is a tie-breaker when UCAT scores cluster.

Is the UCL interview MMI or panel?

MMI - eight stations of about five minutes each, scored independently. Stations rotate between motivation, ethics, role-play, data interpretation and a structured 'tell me about yourself' opener.

Does UCL accept resit A-levels?

Yes, but you need very strong mitigating circumstances and the achieved grades must still be A*AA at first sitting in the resit attempt. Resits without mitigation are normally rejected.

Can I apply to UCL Medicine after a gap year?

Yes - gap years are welcomed and don't disadvantage you, provided you can articulate at interview what you did and what you gained from it.

Is UCL good for international applicants?

Yes, but competitive - only ~34 overseas places per year out of ~3,000 international applicants. Overseas applicants need the same A*AA / IB 39 plus UCAT in the top decile.

Does UCL require Biology AND Chemistry at A-level?

Yes - both are mandatory at A grade minimum. The A* is awarded in any of your three subjects.

When does UCL Medicine make decisions?

Most interview offers go out December-February for 2027 entry; final decisions usually arrive March-April once interview scoring is complete.

Can I defer my UCL Medicine offer?

Deferred entry is permitted but must be agreed at offer stage - UCL doesn't routinely defer post-results.

Does the UCL personal statement matter?

It's not scored but it IS read by the interview panel and used as a springboard for questions. A weak or generic PS makes Stage 3 harder, even if you sailed through Stages 1 and 2.
