Sheffield Medicine asks for AAA incl. Chemistry or Biology + one of Maths/Physics/Psychology, plus a pass in the practical element of any science A-levels at A-level, or 36 points overall with HL 6,6,6 including HL 6 in Chemistry or Biology and a second HL science; no SL below 4. in the IB. At GCSE: 5 GCSEs at grade 7/A, with grade 6/B+ in Maths, English Language and science subjects. For 2027 entry the official minimum UCAT threshold is 1800/2700. That is separate from the interview ranking cutpoint, which was 2120/2700, with average successful scores in the 2080-2170/2700 range.

Sheffield medicine interview format

For 2027 entry, Sheffield uses an in-person MMI for Home applicants and an online panel interview for international applicants. The Home MMI is a circuit of eight stations, each typically lasting 8 minutes. The SJT is converted into an additional score out of five, giving a total interview score out of 45. Aim for 2,700+ to comfortably clear the threshold and 2,850+ to secure an interview; SJT is not a Band 4 auto-reject at Sheffield - it feeds a scored 9th interview station instead.

Does Sheffield Medical School do dissection?

No - Sheffield moved away from full cadaveric dissection in 2020 and now teaches anatomy using prosections, plastination models and imaging. Students still work with human tissue, but on pre-prepared specimens rather than dissecting themselves. If cadaveric dissection is a hard preference, Leeds, Manchester and Cambridge still offer it.

How many places does Sheffield Medical School have each year?

Approximately 306 places on the A100 (5-year) MBChB - 273 Home + 18 Overseas - plus 15 Home places on the A101 (4-year Widening-Access Graduate Entry). Roughly 2,200 applications come in for A100 and ~1,000 candidates are interviewed, so clearing the UCAT ranked cut-off is the single biggest filter.

How is the Sheffield Medicine course structured?

The 5-year MBChB is split into 4 phases. Phase 1 (Year 1): systems-based pre-clinical teaching with Community Attachment Scheme and Patients as Educators. Phase 2 (Year 2): a 6-week research attachment plus lectures, ILAs (Independent Learning Activities) and clinical placements. Phase 3 (Years 3-4): full clinical placements across primary and secondary care, with SSC and elective. Phase 4 (Year 5): two longitudinal integrated placements + lectures consolidating knowledge for foundation practice.
