Imperial Medicine entry requirements (2027 entry)

Imperial Medicine (A100) asks for A*AA at A-level with the A* and A in Biology and Chemistry plus A in a third subject, or 38-39 IB points with 6s in Higher Level Biology and Chemistry. GCSEs are not scored beyond a grade 6 in English. Every applicant must also clear Imperial's published UCAT threshold and perform in a six-station MMI.

• Minimum A-levels: A*AA - Biology and Chemistry required; contextual applicants may hold the A* in any subject
• IB requirement: 38 points minimum (39 typical), including 6 in Biology and 6 in Chemistry at Higher Level
• GCSE requirement: Imperial does not score GCSEs. The only GCSE requirement is grade 6 (formerly B) in English - everything else is decided by A-levels, the UCAT and the MMI.

• Graduate entry: Imperial does not run an A101 graduate-entry course in London. Graduates either apply to the standard six-year A100 MBBS/BSc alongside school leavers - held to the same A-level, UCAT and MMI requirements - or to A102, the four-year graduate-entry MBBS delivered at the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine in partnership with the University of Cumbria, which is UK-applicant only and based in Cumbria rather than London.

All qualifications must be taken in the same sitting - Imperial does not accept A-level resits for Medicine.

How Imperial uses the UCAT

Imperial is one of the few medical schools that publishes an exact UCAT threshold. For 2026 entry it was 2,320 for Home applicants, 2,310 for Overseas applicants and 2,170 for contextual applicants, with SJT Band 3 or better. Treat those as floors, not targets - Imperial interviews only about the top third of its applicant pool, and 2027-entry thresholds move with cohort strength.

Imperial sets hard UCAT thresholds and screens against them before anything else. For 2026 entry - the most recent published cycle - the thresholds were 2,320 total for Home applicants, 2,310 for Overseas/EU applicants and 2,170 for widening participation / contextual applicants, all requiring SJT Band 3 or better (Band 4 is discounted). Meeting the threshold only makes you eligible: Imperial then shortlists roughly the top third of applicants for interview.

Imperial only moved from the BMAT to the UCAT for 2025 entry, so there is very little history to trend. 2026 entry was the first cycle on the reduced /2,700 UCAT (Abstract Reasoning removed) and thresholds were 2,320 Home / 2,310 Overseas / 2,170 contextual. The 2027-entry thresholds are set after the July-September 2026 test window and are not published yet.

Imperial medicine interview format

Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) - six stations for the most recent cycle, each scored out of 10 (6 marks for content, 4 for communication), covering teamwork and leadership, motivation, the role of a doctor, empathy and breaking bad news, ethics, and data interpretation. Station 1 doubles as the personal statement discussion and carries the same weight as every other station. Invitations issued on a rolling basis from December once UCAT scores are reviewed; MMIs typically run through January and February.
