Ulster Medicine asks for Not applicable - graduate entry at A-level, or Not applicable for direct entry - IB is only reviewed as historical academic background alongside the required honours degree. in the IB. At GCSE: GCSE English Language and Maths at grade C/4 or above (Essential Skills Application of Number not accepted as an alternative). Not used - all applicants are required to sit the GAMSAT instead, with a minimum score of 50 in each section and an overall threshold set competitively each year.

Ulster invites applicants who meet the degree and GAMSAT requirements to a Multiple Mini Interview, and the admissions decision follows the MMI. You need at least 50 in each GAMSAT section to be considered for interview. What UCAT score do I need for Ulster 2027 entry?

Ulster ranks applicants by UCAT total score, with NI-domiciled applicants ranked separately from GB and international pools. Recent-cycle guidance suggests an effective cut-off of around 2450-2550 (out of 2700 for 2026 entry) with a satisfactory SJT band (typically 1-3). Aim as high as you can.

Does Ulster Medical School use the GAMSAT?

No - Ulster uses the UCAT, not the GAMSAT. Applicants must sit the UCAT in the same year as their UCAS application.

Do I need a specific degree subject to apply to Ulster?

No - Ulster welcomes graduates from any degree subject, provided you have (or are predicted) at least a 2:1 honours degree. Non-science graduates are considered on the same footing as science graduates.

Does Ulster accept international students?

Yes - Ulster accepts a small international / Overseas quota. Requirements are a 2:1 honours degree in any subject, a valid UCAT and IELTS 7.0 overall (no component below 6.5).

Are places at Ulster reserved for Northern Ireland applicants?

Home (NI domiciled): £4,855 per year for 2026 entry (subject to NI Executive review). Home (rest of UK / GB): £9,535 per year for 2026 entry, rising to about £9,790 for 2027 entry. International: approximately £30,000 - £45,000 per year - confirm on Ulster's international fees page.

Where will I do my clinical placements at Ulster?

Across the Western Health and Social Care Trust (Altnagelvin, South West Acute Hospital, Omagh) and Northern Health and Social Care Trust, plus general practice and community services across the North West of Northern Ireland. Some rural placements require travel and temporary accommodation.

Can I defer my Ulster offer or transfer in from another medical school?

Deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis. Transfers into Ulster from other medical schools are not usually accepted.
