Last reviewed: August 2026 by MedicHut's medical admissions team.

Greater Manchester Medicine entry requirements (2027 entry)

AAB at A-level with a science, five GCSEs at grade 6 including English and Maths, a UCAT and an MMI - but only if you are an international fee-status applicant, because there is no home intake.

How Greater Manchester uses the UCAT

There is no published UCAT cut-off. The school is new, so there is no historic threshold and no released data on interviewed or offer-holding applicants.

The UCAT is required and is used alongside your academic record to decide who is invited to interview. No minimum score or cut-off has been published.

No trend data exists yet. The first cohorts are small and international only, so any score reported online is anecdotal rather than an official threshold.

Greater Manchester medicine interview format

Multiple Mini Interview (MMI): a circuit of short timed stations covering motivation for medicine, ethics, communication and role play, teamwork, and reflection on your experience.

Greater Manchester Medicine FAQs

Can UK home students apply to the University of Greater Manchester Medical School?

Not for 2026 entry. The school has not been allocated home places by the Department of Health and Social Care or NHS England, so the MBChB is open to international fee-status applicants only. Check the university's admissions pages before each cycle in case that changes.

Is the University of Greater Manchester the same as the University of Bolton?

Yes. The University of Bolton was renamed the University of Greater Manchester on 1 August 2024. The medical school is based at the Bolton College of Medical Sciences in Bolton.

What UCAT score do I need?

There is no published cut-off. As a new school it has no historic thresholds and has not released the scores of interviewed or offer-holding applicants. The UCAT is used alongside your academic record to shortlist for interview.

What are the A-level and GCSE requirements?

AAB at A-level, including one of Biology or Chemistry plus one of Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths, and at least five GCSEs at grade 6 or above including English Language and Maths.

How much is tuition?

International tuition is £45,000 a year, roughly £225,000 across the 5-year MBChB. Home fees do not apply because there are no home places.

Is the degree GMC recognised?

The school is in the GMC quality assurance process, which every new UK medical school goes through. Graduates receive a Primary Medical Qualification allowing provisional GMC registration, provided the school continues to meet GMC standards.

What is the interview like?

A Multiple Mini Interview, which is a circuit of short timed stations covering motivation, ethics, communication and role play, teamwork and reflection.

Where are the clinical placements?

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust (Royal Bolton Hospital), Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
