As the UCAS deadline draws closer, you may be thinking of which universities to apply to. It’s important to apply where you are most likely to be offered an interview, rather than applying only to your preferred universities with hopes that they may take you on board. It’s very common for students to receive 4 pre-interview rejections due to a failure to apply strategically.
Why MedicHut Application Strategy?
Every year, we do extensive research into the admissions criteria of each university to better understand which universities our students should send their applications to. If you sign up for an advisory session, our admissions experts will run through all of your qualifications and your preferred universities to advise on which universities are most likely to offer you an interview. We’ll provide you with a comprehensive report and work with you to help you progress to the next stage of the medical school application process.

Why Apply Strategically?
Consider the following scenario: Amy achieved 2600 on her UCAT. She is considering applying to X, Y and Z universities. However, X University’s recent statistics show a UCAT cut-off score of 2650, so it would not be worth applying to X university. On the other hand, Y university places a 25% emphasis on UCAT scores and a 75% emphasis on A-level predictions. Amy has 3 A* predictions, so based on their scoring criteria, she would be in a very good position to obtain an interview. Z University had a UCAT cut-off score of 2600 last year and they will announce their cut-off score once all of the applications are received for the year. In this case, it would not be wise to apply to Z university as it’s not a safe option – this can instead be considered a gamble.
It’s always advisable to apply to universities which will safely, and most likely, offer you an interview. After all, you cannot progress to the next stage of the medical school application without an interview.
