Nottingham Medicine Interview Format 2027
For 2027 entry Nottingham publishes an interview of six scenarios including at least one role play, lasting up to an hour, held in person for home applicants and on MS Teams for international applicants, with interviews between 15 December 2026 and 29 January 2027. Nottingham does not use the label MMI itself, but the multi scenario structure is close to one. Selection for interview combines a scored UCAT, where the Verbal Reasoning score is doubled and the cognitive element is capped at 40 points, with a score built from eight of your GCSE results. SJT is scored by band, Band 4 applicants are not accepted, and A-levels are not scored. A scientific angle reflecting the BMedSci integrated course helps here.
How Nottingham Selects for Interview
Verbal Reasoning is doubled, then up to 40 points are awarded for UCAT cognitive skills and up to 40 for the SJT band, combined with a GCSE score. SJT Band 4 is not considered.
2022 entry home average invited to interview was 2643/3600 (≈1982/2700); 2026 prediction is 1960/2700. There is no fixed threshold - Verbal Reasoning is doubled and UCAT cognitive and SJT each contribute up to 40 points alongside GCSEs. Band 4 SJT is not considered.

You prepare ethics and motivation heavily across the six scenarios but treat the role play scenario as a lesser one to wing on the day. Why it happens: at least one role play sits inside the up to hour long session, and candidates who feel confident on classic content skip rehearsing a scenario with another person reacting to them.
You give a correct clinical answer but never connect it to the underlying science, missing the angle the integrated BMedSci course rewards. Why it happens: candidates prepare for a standard clinical school and do not adjust their answers for a course built around research and science alongside medicine.
You answer the first two or three scenarios with full energy and detail, then your answers get shorter and less precise later in the hour. Why it happens: candidates train for short MMI bursts, and the longer six scenario format with fewer resets catches out anyone who has not paced themselves for sustained performance.
You quote your raw UCAT decile as if it reflects your shortlisting score directly. Why it happens: Nottingham doubles the Verbal Reasoning subtest and caps the cognitive element at 40 points, a specific scoring rule that candidates who only checked their overall decile do not factor in.
