What format is the Newcastle medicine interview?

For 2027 entry Newcastle interviews home A100 and A101 applicants by MMI on campus: seven stations of seven minutes each, with a two minute icebreaker at the start of the first station, and one station involving role play. Applicants classed as international are interviewed instead by a panel of two selectors, on campus or remotely, with a comparable set of questions. Newcastle scores its stations against integrity, communication, empathy and self awareness, motivation and commitment to becoming a doctor, compatibility with the MBBS programme, teamwork including leadership, personal organisation, persistence and resilience. Interviews generally run December to February. Shortlisting for home A100 is a combined academic screen score: up to 40 points from GCSEs plus up to 60 points from the total UCAT, ranked with standard and contextual applicants in separate streams, while international A100 and A101 applicants are ranked on UCAT alone. SJT Band 4 is not considered, and your SJT band is also scored at interview stage, worth the same as one station: Band 1 is 5 points, Band 2 is 3 and Band 3 is 1. Academic recall is not the point here, evidence from your own experience is.

How Newcastle selects for interview

After academic minimums, UCAT alone determines the interview shortlist, alongside a best-8 GCSE score worth up to 40 points.

2024 cut-offs: home 2490/3600 (≈1868/2700), international 2910/3600 (≈2183/2700). 2026 predictions: home 1840, international 2160. No A-level subject requirements beyond a short excluded list.

Typical academic offer: AAA - no subject requirements (excludes Use of Mathematics, World Development, and Communication and Culture) (2027 entry data).
