Lancaster Medicine Interview Format 2027
Lancaster runs a values based MMI, most recently around seven to eight stations of about seven minutes, in person on the Bailrigg campus for home applicants with an online option used for international applicants. Stations cover motivation, communication, ethics, teamwork, reflection, role play and a data or prioritisation task, and no academic knowledge is tested. Lancaster's published 2026 entry UCAT figures were 1,920 out of 2,700 for UK non contextual applicants, 1,870 contextual and 1,900 overseas, with SJT Bands 1 to 3 expected. Lancaster does not accept resits unless you qualify under contextual admissions. Interviews run December to March. Because the course is problem based, you need a specific answer for why Lancaster rather than Liverpool, Manchester, UCLan or Edge Hill.

Common Lancaster Medicine Interview Mistakes
In the data or prioritisation task you reach a sensible final answer quickly but do not narrate your reasoning steps out loud, so the marker cannot see the process being assessed. Why it happens: candidates who are strong at logical tasks solve them silently and only state conclusions, forgetting that Lancaster is marking how you think, not just the final decision.
In the role play station you use a script built for a difficult conversation elsewhere, apologising and reassuring, but you never check what the other person already understands or agree what happens next. Why it happens: candidates transfer a generic breaking bad news template into every role play, rather than adapting it to the specific scenario and prioritisation focus the school actually uses.
When asked why Lancaster, you give an answer that would work equally well for Liverpool, Manchester, UCLan or Edge Hill, without a reason specific to this course. Why it happens: candidates assume all Northern problem based schools share one motivation answer, missing that Lancaster explicitly expects you to differentiate between them.
You bring in a piece of medical knowledge to strengthen an ethics or teamwork answer, even though no academic knowledge is tested here. Why it happens: candidates default to showing off subject knowledge as a way to seem impressive, not realising it adds nothing to a values based station and can crowd out the reasoning that is actually scored.
